La casa de nadie Big Band plays Sol

A contemporary big band project uniting Switzerland and Brazil

José Pino will journey together with pianist Leandro Irarragorri and percussionist Heribel Izquierdo from Zurich to São Paulo to bring to life his latest composition, Sol (Sun). Collaborating with 15 handpicked local musicians, they will create a unique and collaborative big band experience, with the world premiere of Sol recorded live.

This unique project not only showcases Pino’s innovative approach to composition and exceptional skill as a conductor, but also reflects a rich cultural exchange between very distinct musical traditions. The interplay between Irarragorri’s piano and Izquierdo’s percussive rhythms infuses Sol with a dynamic blend of harmonies and beats, creating an intricate and evocative soundscape powered by the strength of the big band format.

In São Paulo, the project will be coordinated with the invaluable support of Chico Macedo, a distinguished member of the Orquestra Brasil Jazz Sinfônica.

Through this collaboration, José Pino masterfully builds a bridge between the musical worlds of Europe and America, capturing the essence of both continents in a singular, compelling piece.

His band, Lele Gorri, not only sounds dynamic but also pulses with energy. Based in Zurich, they aim to re-establish music as a symbiosis between the audience and the stage—unleashing a lively and breathing energy that invites dancing, singing along, and emotional connection. The band features Maxine Yolanda on vocals, Heribel Izquierdo on congas, Ursula Wienken on bass, and Dave Fluetsch on drums. Leandro and José Pino met in 2023 on the film set of the La casa de nadie Podcast: click here to watch interview with original music.
